Fenton Friday: Chive On

The garlic chives are flowering and looking very pretty this week in our community garden plot. I cut a few to give away and also for a cucumber salad that I am making for the Beltsville Garden Club's summer picnic tomorrow. I'll also be using three of the cucumbers from the plot to make it.

I harvested more green beans this week. The zucchini have slowed down and have lots of flowers, but no squash forming at this moment. We did pick a few 'Shishito' pepper and the 'Sungold' tomatoes are so close to ripening, but still waiting...

I planted three mini-pumpkin seedlings that a neighbor had offered. They are just scraggly little things. It may be a bit late, but I thought it was worth a shot.

The cut -flowers (celosia, gomphrena, and zinnia) are looking good. I'm still waiting on the cosmos and marigolds, I hope they bloom in time for entry to the upcoming Montgomery County Fair! I am determined to enter a few things, especially after having no fair at all last year due to COVID.

What is growing in your kitchen garden?

About Fenton Friday: Every Friday during the growing season, I'll be giving you an update on my community garden plot at the Fenton Street Community Garden just across the street from my house in zone 7 Mid-Atlantic MD/DC border. I'm plot #16. It is a 10 ft x 20 ft space and this is our 8th year in the garden. (It opened in May 2011.) See past posts about our edible garden by putting "Fenton" into the Search box above.
