This week as the Olympics go on in Tokyo, I'm happy to report a personal speed record at the community garden -- I picked my first pint of the Castandel bush beans I planted as direct-sown seeds exactly 42 days ago! It is a nice compact plant perfect for small space gardens and the beans are so slender and sweet (not to mention speedy and prolific!), I definitely plan to grow this variety again.
We finally got some rain this week though it arrived in the form of a violent storm on Monday evening that took down large trees and powerlines followed by pea-sized hail that tore some of many leaves to shreds. Still, I am grateful the min-drought here was broken and that we also had a couple small rains throughout the week to top it off.
We harvested more cucumbers and zucchini this week along with a 'Shishito' pepper. The 'Sungold' tomato are so close to ripening, but not quite yet.
I cut more bouquets from the celosia, gomphrena, and zinnia. I am still awaiting on the double cosmos plants to bloom, it will be so fun to make arrangements with them.
